Los Lobos at the Sellersville Theater 2/28/2015

I've been a fan of Los Lobos for over 20+ years, but have never seen them live before. Whenever they were in town, I was either out of town, working, or just not able to make it to the show. This past December they were in Philly doing an all acoustic show...but I had to work, so missed that one. However when I saw that they were in Sellersville, I made sure that I was able to go. They actually did two shows, an early show at 6:00 and a later one that was supposed to start at 8:00. We saw the 6 o'clock show, and it was fantastic! We didn't get out of there until almost 8, so I don't know when the second show started.

They started the show with "Dream in Blue" from the album "Kiko", and then went right into "Maricela" from the album "Colossal Head".  We were sitting way back in row P so the video isn't that great, plus the camera wouldn't zoom during "Kiko". I wanted to record the whole show, but that would have taken away my enjoyment of seeing them live for the first time, so I just got a little sampling, also I didn't take notes, so don't have a full set list.

The guys in Los Lobos are total gearheads, so I was interested to see what instruments they would be using. For most of the night, Cesar played one of two Fender Strats he had on stage, Conrad played a Fender Jazz bass, David played a Gibson SG, but pulled out a Fender Tele for the encores. Louie switched off between a Tele and his Jarana. Louie also played drums for a bunch of songs in the second set, while David played accordion.

The second set started off with "Kiko and the Lavender Moon", and they mixed it up with some Tex-Mex songs with Louie on drums.

As I said, it was a great show, with some great playing from all, including some great sax from Steve, and great drumming from "Bugs". Some other highlights were "Set Me Free (Rosa Lee)", a cover of  the Ritchie Valens song "Ooh My Head", a killer version of "Mas y Mas",  with some great drumming, and the encores of Neil Young's "Cinnamon Girl", and of course "La Bamba" which they mixed with The Rascals "Good Lovin'".

I don't know why it took me so long to see them!! If they're coming near you, you should definitely go check them out!
